5 ways to use Pinterest to market your wedding business

Your head may be slowing down its spin from all the Facebook hype and how to use it to book more brides.  But there's another social media beast rearing its head...Pinterest.

Pinterest is now the third most popular social network in the United States and  traffic to the digital pin-board rose 50 percent from January to February of this year.  What does that mean?  It means that Pinterest had over 21 million visits in the last week of January alone.

Those numbers reinforce the potential for wedding businesses to utilize yet another social channel for brides to engage and share their services. The problem is how?

Below you will find 5 ways to use Pinterest to market your wedding business and book more brides:

  1. Create visually compelling pin boards. - When you create your “pin boards” make sure they are filled with color and black and white images, exciting videos, illustrations, etc. Be creative and show your personality!

  2. Follow the popular people around. - Remember in high school when you finally broke into the popular crowd and now everyone wanted to follow YOU around?  The same is true with social media.  To raise awareness for your wedding business you need to get eyeballs on your pin boards. You do that by following the big names. Figure out who's who on Pinterest and follow them.  Once they follow you (and they will if you share great content) then you're golden.

  3. Cross promote on your website. - I hate to see wedding vendors using Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and blogging but there's no sign of links to them on their website.  STOP that!!!  If you’re promoting one of your products on Pinterest, make sure you include a link back to your website. Although it’s a “no-follow” link, it still counts as an inbound link. And, if a product gets “re-pinned”, you could get some nice traffic to your site. Also be sure to add the “pin it” button on the products and images on your website. This will help your website visitors share your product or image with their Pinterest followers.

  4. Get out the video camera. - Pinterest isn’t only for pictures, it’s for videos as well and brides loooove watching testimonial videos, product highlights, services in action, etc. Do you have videos of brides using your products at real weddings? Or how about videos of your booth at a wedding show?  If so, Pin them up! Create a visually compelling pin board that tells a story about who you are and why a bride would want you with your videos and pictures together.

  5. Don't keep talking about yourself. - No one likes a self promoter right?  Pinterest users don't either.  Try not to talk about your own wedding services and products too much.  Being a good pinner is about providing value to the rest of the community. Post interesting images of weddings, informational tips, celebrity gossip (did you hear about Brangelina's engagement?) and products from multiple sources as well as your own.

Pinterest's popularity is the only reason why a wedding vendor would want to market there.  It's like I said in bullet #2 - follow the popular people around and you'll get popular.  To catch the attention of brides and book more weddings you have to be seen..and Pinterest has the eyeballs you need.

One thing about Pinterest that's different from Facebook or Twitter is you must be invited by Pinterest to open an account so get started now - and let us know how you do.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: What is the process?
A: Once you sign up you'll be assigned an Accounts Manager who will call you every week to ask if you have anything new to tell or show brides. If you don't, then we'll gather information from your website and create something fabulous that will grab brides attention...and we'll post that to your blog, Facebook page and Twitter account. At the end of the month we'll take that information, create an email newsletter with it and send it to your database of bride leads.

Q: Is the content you post to my blog and Facebook generic?
A: NO! All of the posts we create are geared towards each individual client. You will NEVER see the same information on someone else's blog or Facebook page. The content is personalized to your company and your client base.

Q: Can I send several things at once for you to use throughout the entire month so that we don't have to talk every week?
A: Absolutely! You're the boss.

Q: Do I have to fill out a long term contract?
A: NO! It's our job to keep you happy and getting results. Our packages are month to month and you can quit at anytime.

Q: If I quit you after a month what will happen to the content you've posted or the social media pages you've created for me?
A: It belongs to you. We don't do anything with it.

Q: How many vendors in my city do you work with?
A: No more than 4. We don't want all of your competitors receiving the upper hand that we're giving you. It's about the success of YOUR company and that's what we focus on. Knowing that you can quit us at anytime gives us the motivation to keep your brand awareness growing and gives you peace of mind that we're focused on doing that.

Q: Are you an employee? Do I have to pay taxes on you?
No. We're a wedding marketing firm that works as an idependent contractor. You don't have to pay any taxes, insurance, benefits, or an hourly wage. How to grow your business with Facebook? an awesome VIDEO

I receive email after email from wedding professionals asking me "How do I use Facebook to promote my wedding business?" and "How do I get brides to buy from me using Facebook?"  After walking them through how Facebook works I thought, "Hey, I'm going to find a video of a colleague and post it here for all of my wedding professional friends to watch...So the search began.

Here is the phenomenal CEO of FEMnominal Women in Business,  Lainika Johnson-Colbert to educate us on business and Facebook and answer the question "How to promote my business on Facebook?"

If after watching this video you still have questions on how to promote your wedding business on Facebook just give the Bridal Marketing Group, LLC a call at 1-800-431-4628 or send me an email personally to jakki@bridalmarketinggroup.com .  We're here to help all of our fellow wedding vendor professionals engage brides and make money using Facebook.

Good luck!

#1 reason you aren't getting wedding business

You're being too secretive!

I'm sure that you've heard "content is KING!"  What does that mean?  It means that when you're marketing to brides you need to provide her with relevant information that she can use to plan her wedding.

For example, if you're a wedding planner then share with brides on your blog, Facebook and Tweet tips like;
  • How to create "out of the box" wedding favors
  • 5 money saving wedding tips
If you're a wedding photographer you could share information like;
  • 5 creative ways to use your engagement photos as your invitations (or save the date cards)
A common issue that I hear wedding vendors say is that "if I provide brides with my "tricks" then she'll just go out and do it herself."  Are you thinking that too?  If so, let me ask you a question -  have you ever "Googled" the internet for DIY  information?    Don't you think brides are doing that too?  When she googles information about wedding planning, for example, wouldn't it be nicer if your blog pulled up?  It will if you're using the key search phrases that she's typing into Google.

I know that it seems counterproductive to make your tips public but with the new age of social media you just can't afford not to...because everyone else is and she's going to use the wedding vendor that she feels is the most helpful.

I guarantee that you'll be left behind if you don't start marketing to brides this way.  Times have changed my friend.  STOP being afraid of it and start engaging brides.

If you're not sure what to write about then shoot me an email and I'll give you some ideas. jakki@bridalmarketinggroup.com .

The best wedding marketing piece of advice I can give you..

I'm certain that you've been reading every piece of wedding marketing advice you can find in hopes that by implementing it your wedding business will soar.  As a long time wedding marketer I have one piece of advice for you:

No single marketing effort works all the time, so rotate several marketing tactics and vary your approach.

Brides tune out after awhile if you toot only one note. Not only that, YOU get bored.  Wedding marketing can be fun, so take advantage of the thousands of opportunities available for communicating your value to brides. But don't be arbitrary about your selection of a variety of marketing ploys. Plan carefully. Get feedback from brides and adapt your efforts accordingly.

How to measure whether your wedding marketing works

As wedding vendors and wedding marketers, the goals we set for a given marketing channel or specific campaign will inherently frame its success or failure.  Applying the wrong metrics might have us optimizing in the wrong direction, and reducing the impact of our marketing dollars.

I hope this post illuminates the pitfalls of using a seemingly meaty progress metric like the mighty conversion to solely determine where you invest.  We'll take a look at campaign investments in paid search and display advertising over a defined time period, and then trace the path of conversions down the funnel to demonstrate that it’s not the total number of leads or the cost of those leads that count — but how much business those leads create, and the implied ROI of those campaigns?

But this is only part of the picture.  We need to dig deeper to understand where and how value is really being driven.

One of the most effective ways to access this larger audience is through highly targeted display advertising. The beauty of targeted display is that it can be deployed as a lead generator, but it is also the vehicle best-equipped for influencing brides at any stage of the marketing funnel. With display you can reach more brides at scale, driving them into the top of your marketing funnel. But the impact doesn’t stop there—display continuously helps to educate and build trust with brides not yet ready to engage with sales—which then sets up the rest of your marketing mix to do their jobs even better.

Think of it as your display advertising campaigns tossing alley-oops all day long, to set up slam dunk conversions for your wedding website and email and search marketing.

Given that display is actually lifting all boats in your marketing mix, it’s not enough to evaluate the leads that a display campaign delivers. To accurately frame the full value of an investments in display, we need to understand how many brides were directly driven by display (i.e., “post-click conversions”; a user clicks on an ad and converts during the same session), as well as how many brides benefited from a “display alley-oop” (i.e., “post-impression conversions”; a bride views an ad, doesn’t click on the ad, but returns to a website later and converts).

To accurately frame the value of display, you would want to apply tracking metrics that comprehend display’s 1-2 punch.   Essentially, how many brides did display advertising directly drive (post-click conversion) and how much action did display advertising create across the rest of your mix (post-impression conversions).  One way to start measuring post-impression conversions is to create a control group (users that are not exposed to the ad) and a test group (users exposed to the ad).

By doing this, your post-campaign assessment might look something like this (fictitious numbers used for this example)

What’s happened here? If you just measured display post-click conversions in Test Group B, you might conclude that your investment in display earned you 25 leads (and whatever those leads translate into in terms of downstream pipeline and revenue).  But, by getting a handle on the lift created across your other programs, the picture changes quite a bit.  Your display investment actually netted 25 incremental search conversions (and whatever those search leads translate into in terms of downstream pipeline and revenue), and 25 incremental email conversions (and whatever those email leads translate into in terms of downstream pipeline and revenue).

Here’s another way of looking at the conversions that display drove in the example above:

No doubt, tying program investment to bottom line metrics is key to really understanding the value of your wedding marketing effort, and is critical to making smart decisions about where to invest tomorrow.  But, in a wedding marketer’s bag of tricks, every channel and program has its unique role… so we need to resist the urge to apply the same formula for success and success metrics across the board.

After all, there were only a few players that make the highlight reel in a basketball game.  But, if you look a little closer, you’ll see someone else in the corner setting up the alley-oop.

The #1 way to explode your wedding business; CELEBRITIZE YOURSELF!

There are experts in every field, and sometimes we believe them, and sometimes we doubt their credibility.

But, if a celebrity tells us the same exact thing, then we pay closer attention, our interest builds in what they have to say, we nod our heads in agreement and run to tell our friends the latest news. That is what celebrity can do for you.

The term celebrity isn’t just for Kim Kardashian or the other stars we read about in People magazine.  It also refers to experts who are known for being a top contender in their field; Oprah, Steve Jobs, Dr. Oz, The Cake Boss.  Whether you're a florist, wedding planner, dj, or even a limo driver, you can celebritize yourself in any field resulting in brides standing up and paying attention to you and your company.”

The point is that everyone who isn’t famous still has one thing in common with people who are celebrities: at one point they weren’t celebrities either.

For example, two ordinary people who were able to find their niche and celebritize themselves in then-unknown fields are Julia Child and Erma Bombeck.  Julia Child, whose background was in publicity and advertising, took her passion for French cooking and turned it into a dynasty. Erma Bombeck, a reporter turned homemaker, took a $3 per column job and turned it into a nationally-syndicated phenomenon.

Today, the names of both women are synonymous with their professions.  Celebrity for these two icons grew not out of ambition or greed...what they became famous for was what they loved.

Take a look at Duane “Dog” Chapman, “the most famous Bounty Hunter alive.” Then there is Linda Cobb, “The Queen of Clean” and Linda Greenlaw, a swordfishing boat captain turned author who now has a series of very popular books.

Celebrity is a powerful commodity; doors that were once closed can suddenly open. People listen to what they ignored before.  New business and money flows to you – not away from you. Most of all, people thank you for sharing your wisdom.”

Celebrity status brings you:
  • Identity – becoming your own brand
  • Credibility – people trust what you say

This celebrity method and how you can use it to benefit your wedding business is taken to another level for wedding vendors inside the book, "21st Century Bridal Marketing; Take Back Your Piece of the Pie."

This book leads you step by step through a method that can help any wedding vendor achieve celebrity status in the wedding industry...resulting in more bookings and more money!

Are You Ready to Get “Real” About Social Media?

How Real Leads are Possible from the Virtual World

The role social media can play in an effective marketing program is still confusing to some, because the connections to friends or followers happen in the “virtual world.”  So let’s get real about Social Media Marketing (SMM)!

Think about it like this:  When networking at conferences and parties in the “real world,” you connect with people (and/or potential clients) who can serve your personal (and/or business) needs.  But how do you maintain these connections, let alone make them stronger?

It used to be that you would get a business card, maybe follow up with an e-mail or phone call, but more than likely, due to time constraints, you wouldn't speak to that person (potential lead) again until the next time you saw them at a conference or party.

However, you can now create and nurture these connections with consistent meaningful communication, while never having to leave your office or home.

The exact same “real world” networking principles used at conferences, parties and the like, also apply online with social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn.  Even better, Social Media Marketing gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts (and business message) with these connections at any time and usually right to their smartphone.

As a leading wedding marketing firm, we know that the wedding leads coming from the “virtual world” of social media are very REAL!  In fact, most of our clients wedding business is being built via Social Media Marketing - is yours?

If you lack the time to build your social media following or have a limited knowledge of how it works, don't worry, we can help you.

If I gave you a powerful way to book more weddings, would you use it?

When I “discovered” this and put it to work, it had a profound impact on my wedding business.  It helped me grow my wedding business steadily and with peace of mind. Then for some silly reason I stopped using it.

(Don't waste time or else you'll go broke)

I did the same thing when a friend gave me a very simple diet that helped me lose 30 pounds. I followed the rules, lost the weight and then fell back into old habits.  My pants were growing but my business was not.
Thankfully I caught myself – I went back to what worked and got the results I wanted. I lost the weight and the business doubled.

Now, I will give you the big secret – but I guarantee only a few wedding vendors reading this will give it a try for at least 30 days. Most will just nod and say, “That sounds good,” and take no action. Others will try for a week or two and give up.

To grow your wedding business, do this:
  1. Set an aggressive but realistic revenue goal for the year.
  2. Divide it by twelve to get your monthly goal.
  3. Divide that number by the number of working days in the month. Now you know what you have to hit every day.
  4. Figure out what actions you need to take to get reach that goal. How many leads? How many phone calls? How many postcards to brides do you need to mail? How many sales appointments do you need to schedule?
  5. Keep your goal and your daily tasks in front of you.
  6. Review them in the morning – review them every night.
  7. Plan out your day the night before and stick to that plan.
  8. Make marketing your top priority. No excuses.
Be honest with yourself and take consistent action. Plan your work, work your plan.

And the diet?  Don’t eat cheese, bread or butter. Eat less red meat. Take more walks.  That’s it. Don’t over-complicate things!  Get started."

What do you think?  Can you do it?

How to make money on Black Friday or Cyber Monday with your wedding business

Everyone knows that Black Friday is typically when consumers go a little bonkers and buy everything they need and don't need because it's 50% off.

So how do you jump on the bandwagon and sell your own wedding services and products to brides on Black Friday?

  • Create a Facebook ad and offer a specific service or product of yours for 50% off IF brides reserve it on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.  Creating a Facebook ad is simple.  Here's a link to a one-sheet that will help you create a Facebook ad.  http://www.bridalmarketinggroup.com/
    • Design and send out a blast email with a Black Friday or Cyber Monday special.  Remember, the special must meet the crazy "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday" standards of a deal which is typically 50-70% off.    For example, the Knot just sent out an email that offers their groomsmen gifts for $3.99 instead of $19.99..that's about an 80% discount.
Why is offering a Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal so important?  Because it grabs brides' attention, gets them to your website and, 9 times out of 10, they end up buying additional items.  That's when you make your profit.  Black Friday has been going on since the Great Depression when President Franklin D. Roosevelt decided to add on to the Christmas shopping period and try to boost the economy.  Cyber Monday is a little more recent than that. :) :)

Regardless of when it started it happens every year, and wedding retailers have been taking advantage of it for aeons.  Why shouldn't you?

If you need help coming up with idea,s please give us a call at 1-800-431-4628, and we'll help you.  Time is running out though, so don't delay.  Btw, we're offering $200 OFF our services on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  That's right, $200 OFF!  So don't forget to go to www.bridalmarketinggroup.com to register to receive the discount code and then get ready, set, go!

      Here's to your success always!

5 Tips to Keep Brides Coming Back to your Blog and Your Bounce Rate Low

Are your blog visiting brides sticking around to read your content?

Having sticky content is essential for capturing the short attention span of the online reading bride.

When a bride clicks through to your wedding blog they are looking for well written content that is relevant to the keywords searched on or the messaging surrounding your inbound link. One of the best metrics to gauge the stickiness of your content (or how long your visitors are “sticking” around on your blog) is the bounce rate.

      sticky_shoe

Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance page. A high bounce rate is most likely caused by visitors not finding the information they are searching for when they land on your page. Chances are these visitors are clicking the back button and going on to the next relevant page from their search engine results, resulting in a missed opportunity for you.

The main goal here is to make sure your content is relevant to the keywords and entrance paths that are referring traffic.

Here are five tips to deliver sticky content and a lower bounce rate:

      1.    Use Google Analytics to find posts with a high bounce rate and short average time on page. Re-write or re-purpose those posts based on the keywords that are being searched on and becoming entrance paths. Make sure those keywords are relevant to the content on the page.
      2.    Set the links inside your blog posts to open into a new window once clicked. This will allow your readers to easily return to your blog when they are finished checking out any links. Don’t overdo it, but do include internal and external links that add value to your post.
      3.    Monitor your visitors’ time on page. Are they staying long enough to read an entire post? Time yourself reading an average length post and compare. You may find that your posts are too long and you may need to shorten them. If this is the case, try keeping your blog topics to one idea per post.
      4.    Monitor your traffic sources. Are your visitors referred from Google? Facebook? Twitter? LinkedIn? Which sources have the best time on page/lowest bounce rates? Which ones have room for improvement? Consider adjusting the ad copy or meta descriptions to better match your content page to align expectations with your audience.
      5.    Create a “Top Posts” or “Popular Posts” widget in your sidebar. Having a running list of your most shared blogs and commented on posts is a great way to encourage a second click.
In a perfect world, your bounce rate will be zero. In the real world, your bounce rate should be somewhere that you are comfortable with based on your overall objectives. Relevant posts based on targeted keywords will keep your content from disappointing; following the tips above will encourage visitors to stick around longer.

If you need help with your blog, don't have time to regularly post to it or aren't sure how please check out our services at www.bridalmarketinggroup.com .

The Bridal Marketing Group assists wedding vendors in wedding marketing and reaching brides effectively through result driven blog posts.

5 reasons why you're not closing the deal with brides

Your wedding marketing company has done its job.  They’ve filled your funnel with wedding sales leads.  The sales department followed through on the leads provided but somehow your close-ratios are dropping.  What happened?

This scenario isn’t unusual, sometimes leads fall through cracks or systems fail, but the important thing is to identify the weak links in your lead generation chain and avoid the blame game between when you get the lead from your marketing techniques and the close.

If you are finding issues in your lead generation process, check these 5 reasons why you may be losing opportunities and what you can do to fix it:

      1. Your Lead Scoring Is Off The Mark
The work you do on the front end has a huge impact on the back end of your sales process.  Nowhere is this more evident than in your lead scoring system.  If you don’t have a complete profile on who your ideal sales lead is, you’re basically throwing proverbial pasta against the lead generation wall and hoping it sticks.  In other words..target the right audience from the get-go.

Encourage regular meetings between sales and marketing to grade and adjust how your lead scoring is performing.  Make this a consistent part of your planning and you’ll not only stay on top of your fine-tuning, you’ll foster a stronger relationship between sales and marketing, as well.

      2. Your Lead Nurturing Is Spotty
Once those wedding prospects are in your sales funnel, they should be integrated into a well-timed, regular touch program.  If those leads you thought were hot are cooling down too often, then it’s time to examine how well you are continuing the conversation that started when they agreed to give you their email addresses.

Be sure you are covering these aspects of reaching out to prospects:

§ Contact them within 5 minutes of when they subscribe
§ Engage in at least 4 reach-outs to keep them interested
§ Don’t have your sales department contact leads before they are sales-ready
The process of lead nurturing puts a spotlight on the communication between marketing and sales.  If prospects sense a disconnect within the system, they’ll be less likely to put their trust (and their dollars) in your business.

      3. Your Message Doesn’t Compel
The ideal content marketing message is one that provides relevant information, educates and compels brides to act.  That thread must weave through every piece of content, whether on your website and social media channels, in your blog or throughout your email marketing.  Without a consistent message, prospects will look elsewhere.

Above all else, decide what it is you want brides to do.  Do you want them to download a whitepaper or sign up for your newsletter?  Tell them!  While there is a fine line between pushing and motivating, there is no substitution for a call to action.

      4. You Don’t Understand How Brides Think
You may be skilled at collecting names but a stuffed top of the funnel does not equate to the same amount of sales.  Your dwindling results may be due to the fact that you don’t understand how brides think.

You need to understand the differences between latent and active brides.  Some come in as hot leads and flow through the funnel quickly to sale but leads that need more time must be followed up with differently.

This goes back to lead scoring.  Do you know if your lead is the primary buyer or a contributor?  What is it  that may keep them from pulling the trigger?  The myriad of details that go into bride's decision making should be top of your mind as well, so you can create a message that brings them value and a series of reach outs that fit their schedule.

      5. You’re Not Keeping Track Of The Numbers
Industry stats indicate that 40% of prospects become leads.  But as we know, not all leads are created equal.  If you don’t know why your conversion rates are less than impressive, maybe it’s because you haven’t really looked at the numbers closely (or often) enough.

Your metrics should take into account conversion rates over time by type.  For example, do trade show leads perform better than pay-per-click (PPC)?  PPC leads may cost more but if they convert more quickly they may end up costing less per customer.

Throughout the sales process, the foundation to success is sales and marketing alignment. When marketing understands how to find the best bride leads and sales gives feedback to which prospects became the best leads, then both can benefit from future forecasting based upon on-going results.
If you are experiencing cracks in your sales funnel mortar, go back to the basics and get both sides of the team on the same page.  You’ll see conversion rates soar.
